Downgraded travel class, canceled tickets
and other potential refunds of fees

Delayed and canceled flights are not the only situations you can encounter when traveling by air. For example, downgraded travel class, non-provision of services you have purchased, or the refunding or cancelling of your tickets, though less common, are problems for which it is good to know what you are eligible for, how to proceed, and what your rights are.

In the event that you order any supplemental services along with your ticket (e.g. a better seat, higher travel class, entertainment package, luggage services, etc.) and duly pay for them, the airline is then obligated to provide these services to you. If the airline does not provide them and no reason is given, you may be entitled to a refund of your payment for the unused services.

In the event that this is specifically the downgrading of your travel class and concerns a flight subject to EU Regulation EC 261/2004, you are entitled to the return of the amount of the price of the airplane ticket depending on the distance of the flight according to the following rules:

In order to claim compensation for delayed flight as part of the European Regulation, the flight must be operated by at least one of the following methods:

  • The flight must have taken place within the European Union or a member state (Norway, Switzerland, Iceland)
  • The departure location must be within the European Union or a member state
  • The flight is operated by an airline that has its registered office in the territory of the European Union or a member state

The definition of flight distance for determining the amount of your compensation for downgraded travel class

This amount is defined on the basis of the distance between the departure location and the final destination as part of a single reservation. Please note: this distance does not include any distances between flights or transfers during the course of a trip or the distance of an alternative connecting flight. It consists solely of the shortest distance between the initial departure city and the final destination city according to the original purchased reservation, according to the following demonstration:

30 % ticket prices up to 1 500 km

Other options for obtaining compensation for delayed flights that are not subject to EU regulations

Compensation can be obtained for flights that are not subject to EU Regulations or are not operated by air carriers with registered office in the EU. The amount of the compensation varies on an individual basis and conforms either to the legislation of the given country or the terms and conditions of the given air carrier. At the same time, the form and amount of any compensation varies and can consist of a financial value or of damages in the form of flight miles or bonus or gift vouchers. If any airline has downgraded your travel class or not provided a service you ordered, do not hesitate to enter your flight into our form and we will get your money back.

Our tip:

If you do not receive a service you ordered, make a record of it either in the airplane or after arrival, and get it confirmed by a representative of the airline. You will greatly simplify later negotiations for compensation with the airline.

Canceled tickets

We often encounter cases where the customer is requesting assistance due to cancellation of tickets purchased either directly from the airline or through a reseller. As in the cases of delayed flight, canceled flight, and problems with luggage, we offer assistance to our customers in this area as well. Nonetheless it is worth noting that there is no regulation that even partially defines the obligations of airlines or ticket sellers in the area of cancelled tickets. It is therefore entirely up to the terms and conditions of the given seller whether to allow the cancellation and, if so, whether to pay for it, and in what amount you will pay for this action.

In general it applies that the less expensive the ticket you buy, the worse the conditions are for any later modifications such as cancellation of tickets, change of the date of the flight, change of the name on the reservation, etc. Our only advice is to read the conditions of the given seller before your purchase, or to consider insuring the tickets against cancellation.
