Delayed or cancelled Wizz Air flight? You may be entitled to compensation of up to EUR 600

When are you entitled to compensation from Wizz Air ?
- Flight delay: you arrived at your final destination more than 3 hours late. The actual arrival time, not the departure time, is decisive.
- Flight cancellation: the flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure. You are always additionally entitled to alternative transport or a ticket refund, even in extraordinary circumstances.
- Denied boarding: typically because the flight was overbooked. The entitlement arises immediately, regardless of the length of the delay.
Wizz Air specifics: what should you watch out for?
- Adding credit to a customer’s account. Wizz Air often offers compensation in the form of credits towards future flights, often with a bonus on top. However, these credits have a limited validity period and can only be spent with Wizz Air. You are always entitled to a cash refund, and by accepting the credits you generally waive your right to a cash refund.
- Strictly formal communication. Requests submitted outside the official channels or containing a minor error may go unanswered. All communication is in English.
- Citing exceptional circumstances. If the carrier cites exceptional circumstances, it is difficult to refute such a claim without flight data. We work with this data on a daily basis.
- More operating companies. The flight may have been operated by the Hungarian W6, the Maltese W4 or the British W9. Claims should be made to the operating carrier; for Wizz Air UK flights, the British equivalent of Regulation (EC) No 261 applies, with compensation of 220, 350 and 520 pounds. You can find the code in the flight number, or we can look it up for you.

Frequently asked questions about compensation
Wizz Air offered me credits with a bonus. Should I accept them?
We recommend thinking very carefully about this. Credits have a limited validity, are tied to Wizz Air, and by accepting them you generally waive the right to payment in cash. Under the EU regulation, you always have the right to receive compensation in cash into your bank account.
My flight was operated by Wizz Air Malta, not Wizz Air Hungary. Does that change anything?
Only the party to which the claim is addressed. Both companies are based in the EU, so the entitlement and amounts remain the same. We will identify the correct airline from the flight number for you.
I missed a connecting flight that was on a separate ticket. Am I entitled?
Unfortunately, there is no compensation for a missed connecting flight on a separate booking because the flights are assessed separately. However, if the first flight arrived more than 3 hours late, your claim for that flight remains valid. Send us both flights and we will examine all the options.
I flew with Wizz Air from London and the flight was delayed. Do the European rules apply there too?
Yes. After Brexit, the United Kingdom adopted its own equivalent of the European regulation, known as UK261. Compensation is GBP 220, GBP 350 or GBP 520 depending on the flight distance. For flights from London to the EU with a European airline, the European regulation may also apply; we will assess which option is more favourable for you. We routinely handle such cases.
Wizz Air is not responding to my claim at all. What now?
We repeatedly encounter a lack of response from low-cost airlines. Hand the case over to us. We have proven communication channels and, where an airline does not communicate, we enforce the claim through legal proceedings at our own risk and expense.
How far back can I claim compensation?
The limitation period in the Czech Republic is 3 years from the flight date, but the right must be asserted against the airline without undue delay, no later than within 6 months. The sooner you enter the flight, the better.
I didn’t buy my flight ticket directly from Wizz Air, but through a ticket agent or travel agency. Am I entitled to a refund?
Yes. You are entitled to compensation from Wizz Air as the operating carrier, regardless of where you bought your ticket. You don’t need to deal with the intermediary at all; all we need to process your claim is your flight number and booking reference.
